Marvin Gaye – Soon I’ll Be Loving You Again
Going retro psyche for this week’s song of the week.
Recently been hearing to Marvin Gaye’s 1976 album I Want You and the song getting constant quantity replay is this one, Soon I’ll Be Loving You Again. I love everything about this record and want to know where it’s been concealment the last years of my life!
Everything about it, the lyrics, the way it builds, the way Marvin seems to ad-lib over the whole record, the horns… this is everything I love about great psyche music from the seventies.
Enjoy, enjoy again… then enjoy a couple more times.

Take Me To Your Heaven .
Review:
The first album from Stevie Woods, and one of just . few record ever by the early eighty psyche groover as a headliner! It’s made up of Henry Sweet mid tempo cuts, slightly spacier key & percussion flavored numbers, slow jam with string accent and more – really Nice stuff all around! Stevie’s a charismatic singer, and this is well tailored, nicely produced and easygoing work We’re surprised Stevie didn’t have more years in the limelight! Includes “Fly Away”, “Just Can’t win ‘Em All”, “Take Me To Your Heaven”, “Steal The Night”, “Through The Years”, “Wanna Be Close To You”, “Read Between The Lines”, “Throw A Little spot Of Love My Way” and “Gotcha”..

Shadow
Bio:
Shadow spun off from the OH Players around 1979 and hung around long enough to record three albums. Their individuality was shrouded in mystery, James “Diamond” Hiram King Hiram King Williams , William “Billy” beck , and Chet Thomas Thomas Willis were seemingly the briny members. Other instrumentalist supplemented the trine in the studio; live, their card resembled the OH Players. Their first LP, Love Life, surfaced on Elektra record in 1979 and featured song composed by Williams, Beck, and Thomas Willis the three shared production recognition with Don Mizell. Ironically, Hiram King Williams and beck supposedly didn’t play on Love Life, the only credited player is Willis. A press release from Elektra states: “Who are the player on ‘Love Lite’? Only shadow knows!”
The player were in fact Daniel Zazurus , Kenneth Williams, Diamond’s blood brother , Henry Martyn Robert Bryant, Garnett Brown, Ernie Fields, Delbert Taylor, Azar Lawrence, and Fred Wesley Elektra marketed two singles from the LP: “I Need Love” which charted at number 77, and “No Better Love” which soared five slot better at number 72. A second LP, Shadow, emerged a year later with Leon ware producing. Again the actual player remain a mystery — no credits Like the first set, the group wrote the bulk of the numbers, often with Ware credited as co-writer. A single release, “Mystery Dancer,” at number 68, obtained a higher chart position than their two previous singles It may have done better if the phonograph record jockey hadn’t flipped it, the B-side, “Hot City,” charted two months later at number 75. The final shadow album, shadow in the Street, sealed their destiny No hit charted from this collection produced by Leon Ware. In fact, shadow never really got off like Williams, Beck, and Thomas Willis had anticipated, the singles that charted were nothing compared to what they enjoyed with the OH Players. Accustomed to much more, and possibly spoiled by previous success, shadow disbanded. Whether they called it quits, or Elektra pulled the plugged, no more shadow album dropped, and Williams and Thomas Willis eventually gravitated back to the revamped OH Players; beck pursued other opportunities.

Show And Tell .
Review:
A great set from . group who should have been huge – a surprisingly well put-together vocal trio, featuring Pb vocal music from Limon Wilson, and great harmoniousness from Derrell Glenda Jackson and Joe Williams! There’s a definite groove on most numbers, but it’s usually quite far from the stiffer sound of chart soul – still with key 80 elements, but carefully balanced by Michael Zager – who produced and arranged, with a flair that’s a lot deeper than some of his other project of the time! The midtempo cut are especially Nice – including “Now That I’ve Made It With You” and “She’s Got It”, both of which are good laid-back stepper’s channel – and other track include “Lady Of The Night”, “Lay Back In The Groove”, “I Am The Funk”, and “Show & Tell”.

Don’t Look Any Further .
Review:
Don’t Look Any Further is the first released solo album from Dennis Jonathan Edwards the sometime enticement Pb vocalist Edwards first made . solo recording in 1977, but had nothing to show for it but an unreleased album He returned stronger than ever, but then again left in the eye of the Roger Huntington Sessions for Back to rudiments For Don’t Look Any Further, Jonathan Edwards teamed with producer Dennis Lambert, who was behind the boards for 1983′s enticement try Surface Thrills. This try skillfully merged the loveman persona reminiscent of teddy bear Pendergrass with the confident early-’80s Al Jarreau-style dada With Edwards in great voice and spirits, Don’t Look Any Further is . thoroughly enjoyable listen. The big hit here, the reggae-tinged rubric track, was supposed to be a duet with Chaka khan Siedah Garrett, who did the demo, appears instead and display great chemistry with Edwards. The slow-burning “ Aphrodisiac” soon has Jonathan Edwards screaming the paint off the walls. What’s remarkable about Don’t Look Any Further is how is continues to succeed in light of potentially album-stalling premises and sometime so-so production The breakdancing-ready style of “Shake Hands ” case Edwards’ bluster quite well The album’s biggest surprise, the Henry Sweet ballad “Just Like You” has Jonathan Edwards singing with surprising emotion Don’t Look Any Further nowadays Jonathan Edwards as a potent solo act and display the depth and nicety inherent in his best work .

Renaissance .
Review:
With . jacket adorned by mystical symbol of every faith and tribe Ian Douglas Ian Douglas Smith could think of, Renascence is . pleasant pean to Peace, Love and discernment that tour down easily and almost tracelessly. Ian Douglas Ian Douglas Smith doubles on acoustic pianoforte and Cecil Rhodes electric automobile piano, the latter often tarted up by gentle period Echoplex effects, and brother Donald Ian Douglas Smith provides ethereal transverse flute and occasional vocals. The Smith are at their most ingratiating when navigation along in a semi-Brazilian channel on “Mardi Gras” and “A vocal of Love” that pre-echoes a similar direction that tap Metheny would yield Otherwise, the mildly spacy blue funk patterns and lightweight age of Aquarius atmosphere rise not too far above the level of hip ’70s makeout music Still, you could do a lot, lot worse in that genre .
