The single was produced by music star Saint George Duke, who initially thought the song was too pop-ish and would not work. However, Duke’s production understanding proved to be as paramount as Williams’ vocals.
In the late ‘80s, Deniece Williams released a number of albums, including Hot On the Trail, Water Under the Bridge, and As Good As It Gets. However, owing to a lack of promotion from her record label, her popularity began to slicing as the decennium came to a finale Her last top decade hit was 1988’s “I Can’t Wait.”
