April 30th, 2009UncategorizedNearly everyone would agree that music is one of the most significant and enduring art forms ever created by mankind, though most people still view it primarily as entertainment. An astute few seem capable of looking beyond music's obvious entertainment value, and among these is bassist Russel Blake. He views music as both a tool for healing the spirit, and as a means of removing the cultural barriers which divide us, by serving as mankind's universal language. Blake strives to convey this message not only through his music, but also through his words and actions. To Russel Blake, being a musician is a gift which carries with it a serious obligation.

Between new wave, rock and electronica lies the syrupy sound of Bagetsafonik. Armed with a dozen original songs replete with personal, nostalgic and bittersweet themes, the independent band has glued audiences to the groove since 2004. As Pedicab and Monsterbot vocalist, Diego Mapa wrote in his 2005 article on the band, “A Bagetsafonik experience is the first taste of soda after having too many beers. Finally: sugar water…it’s totally refreshing.”

grace jonesI am totally reveling in this feel good and original electro funk. I could totally imagine shaking my ass and clapping in a roller disco to “Tonight.” This shit is classy… the vocoder vocals feels like gooey chocolate syrup on top of the Kool & The Gang sundae. I am kind of amazed at how well he captures early eighties electro-r&b as well. On “Personal Touch” featuring vocalist “Courtney” the track screams early nineties r&b with a splash of Real McCoy. If you remember “Return of the Mack” then you’ll totally love this track.

April 24th, 2009UncategorizedThe village of Linkenholt, England goes on sale this week. It consists of 22 homes and cottages, two blacksmiths, and a cricket field. The asking price is 22-25 million pounds ($31-35 million). From Reuters:The archetypal English village is nestled in rolling countryside and boasts a manor house, old rectory and clock tower and is part of a 2,000-acre estate...
"For sale -- an English village"
Locals, who rent their properties, are expected to stay on after the sale, and most hope that a change in ownership does not mean a change in lifestyle.
"It would be nice if somebody bought the estate and lived here and was Lord of the Manor to be quite honest, that's the general consensus of everyone in the village," said Colin Boast, one of the village's two blacksmiths.
"It would just be nice if somebody looked at the village and said 'well, let's keep it as the village it is.' But you never know." -

Kleeer was a New York-based disco/funk group headed by drummer, arranger, songwriter, and vocalist Woody Cunningham. The group -- fleshed out by vocalist/percussionist Paul Crutchfield, guitarist Richard Lee, and bassist Norman Durham -- formed in 1972 as the backing group for the Choice 4. Two years later, they broke off on their own and changed their name to the Jam Band. For a brief period, the Jam Band backed up Disco Tex & the Sex-O-Lettes for touring purposes and even appeared with the group on the TV program The Midnight Special. -

Help Is On The Way is a perfect, sultry boogie jam by The Whatnauts. It was mixed by Tee Scott and released by Harlem International Records in 1981.This next track is from 1982 by the Philadelphia group Fat Larry's Band. The track seems to use the the exact same bassline to great effect. Act Like You Know is a great jazz funk tune with uplifting lyrics.< -
